London and England are particularly well-represented in the sale. Many maps of the London Underground, including a 1933 second edition of Harry Beck’s revolutionary design, are on offer, as well as 17th-century county maps of Derbyshire, Buckinghamshire, Rutlandshire and several others by John Speed. Also featured is a 1934 map of the Thames, the London river that serves as the country’s main port; a map of the coast of south-central England, including the Isle of Wight; and a selection of maps dating to 1903 that depict English racecourses, including Newmarket Heath, Kempton Park and the Liverpool Grand National, with the tracks laid out in orange and white against backdrops of green.

Charles Booth 1902 map charting poverty in London, showing the well-heeled areas of Mayfair, Chelsea, Kensington, Notting Hill and others, estimated at $2,500-$3,000
